Since February of 2022, the Delavan Darien School District has been operating with an interim Superintendent. Former Superintendent, Jill Sorbie, resigned in June of 2023.
The district’s search for a new superintendent began with staff/community interviews on February 28, 2024. The district interviewed potential candidates, and the selected final candidates participated in a panel discussion with staff and community members. Not only was the district involved, but they also wanted the community to be a part of finding a new superintendent.
The Delavan-Darien School District search is ongoing for a new superintendent. The school district sent out an email to the community with a survey titled, “Community Input Survey for Selecting a New School District Superintendent.”
The district is seeking a candidate who:
- Your connection to the School District
- Are you a taxpayer for the Delavan-Darien School District
- The survey also asked the community to rank the desired qualities and characteristics from 1-10
- Top priorities of the new superintendent and any significant challenges you believe they should address during their tenure
The current person filling the superintendent position is Anthony Klein. However, his official position title is Chief Operating Officer and Business Administrator. He is the one who has taken over the role as superintendent, while they are searching for a new one. Mr. Klein spoke to us and answered some questions about his position as “interim superintendent.”
“What does your job entail?”
Mr. Klein says, “Superintendents are in charge of financials, policy-making, curriculum, and reporting to state and federal government. Some essential qualities of a superintendent are leadership, communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and resilience.”
“What is something our new superintendent should know about our district?
“The new superintendent will have to understand the community of Delavan. We have a larger Hispanic population, a blue-collar group, and we can NOT have school in-session during the Walworth county fair.”
