Do you enjoy relaxing and creating? Here at DDHS we have an amazing art program run by Ms. Watson and Ms. Vogt. There are two parts to this program, 2D Art, Photography and Graphic Design.
Draw / Design
At DDHS we have a variety of different classes offered to students. The beginner art class is Art Foundations. This is an entry-level course that covers the basics of a variety of different media like acrylic, watercolor, oil and more. Students will also learn about different theories in art education. This class is offered to all students. Once Art Foundations is complete there are more specified classes students can partake in.
Draw and Printmaking Studio
Draw and Printmaking Studio teaches drawing techniques to get the right angles and measurements for every drawing. You also learn how to work different media into making prints. Students will learn to use charcoal to shade and create different lighting techniques in your work. To make prints you will work with ink utensils and the press to create many prints. This class is offered to all students in all grade levels.
Ceramics Studio
Ceramics Studio usually runs second semester only. In ceramics you will always be hands-on. You will create various projects like jars, bowls, animal racquets and even look-a-like food. This class is messy, fun and available for all grade levels.
Painting Studio
Painting Studio is a class that teaches the use of different media like acrylic, oil, watercolor and many others. You will learn about perspective in paintings and how to apply it to your artwork. This course is great for those who are focused on growing their portfolio!
Sculpting and Art Metals Studio
Sculpting and Art Metals Studios is a great class to unleash your creativity. In the first part of sculpting and art metals, it will involve creating small pieces of jewelry. You will learn how to saw, forge, solder, enamel and stone sets. In the second half, students will be able to create their subjects and share their ideas.
AP Drawing
The AP class offered in this department is the AP Studio Art: Draw and Design. This is an advanced-level course that falls under the requirements of Advanced Placement. Seniors are required to complete at least two of the four classes offered at DDHS. It is the only year-long drawing art course offered at DDHS. You can exercise your choice of media to create many pieces of artwork for the yearly DDHS end-of-the-year art show and AP Submission.
