“Learning to do, doing to learn, earning to live, living to serve” is the motto for Future Farmers of America (FFA). This school year ,FFA is looking a little different with the arrival of our new agriculture teacher, Mrs. Odling.

FFA is one of the myriad of clubs the Delavan-Darien High School has to offer. This school year, Mrs. Odling was able to expand the club to the Middle School, allowing grades 5th-8th at Phoenix to enrich their knowledge about agriculture and partake in many learning activities. Pumpkin carving, World Dairy Exposition (WDE), and a food drive are some of the fun activities that FFA has engaged in this school year.

Looking forward, FFA has many more opportunities including Food for America, livestock judging, FFA week, showing at the fair, and the National Convention.

FFA strives to help kids and adolescents develop maturity, leadership, teamwork, community service and skills revolving around agriculture. Mrs. Odling is looking to implement some more community service projects like tie blankets and a food drive. Also, she wants to bring members more opportunities to grow and learn more about agriculture.

There’s no doubt that FFA will look different this school year with a new agriculture teacher. However, FFA is only continuing to grow locally and nationally. Peyton Gehl, sentinel of FFA, says she joined FFA to be a leader, show, help the community and to build friendships. As we are embarking on a new year, FFA is looking for new members willing to learn more about the world of agriculture.
