DDHS students, we find ourselves in an exciting time when it comes to fall athletics here at our wonderful school. All our sports teams (especially Football) are having great seasons and plan to make deep runs into the playoffs. There’s never been a better time to be a proud Comet.
However…

WE NEED MORE STUDENTS TO COME SUPPORT OUR TEAMS!

One of the key factors in determining the outcome of a game or match is the fans, which means your attendance helps our Comets win. As of late, the bleachers have gotten a lot quieter during games, which is something we all need to fix, sooner rather than later.

There are over 500 students at DDHS, which means if every student went to just 5 games, we’d average about a hundred students at every game. Imagine: one hundred of us, all cheering together with one big roar. The smell of popcorn and pizza in the air, the humid warmth of the dozens of shouting bodies covering you like a blanket, the distinct scents of cheap cologne amalgamating with everyone who didn’t wear deodorant that day… actually, never mind, you get what I mean.

And here’s the thing with high school athletics: the more invested you are, the more entertaining they become. Maybe rooting for your best friend or significant other gets you to go, or maybe you’re a stats guy who loves the numbers of the game. Either way, the more time you invest in being what we’ll call a D1 fan, the more you and our players get out of it.

Looking back on one’s high school experience, one tends to remember the sports teams and how well (or how badly) they did. Those memories aren’t made by listening to the intercom announcing the results of games the night before; they’re made by standing in the student section, hollering when the other team is shooting a free-throw, or by running onto the field after the football team wins a key game to deepen their run into the playoffs.

We at the Cometeer love our sports teams and other extra-curricular activities, and we’ve made it a point to report on as much of it as we can. Now, you can get the info we report on straight from the source! With the publication of this article, links to the Rock Valley Conference website and Maxpreps.com, the main website used to track student-athletes’ stats and rankings, will be posted on the Cometeer website.

We know that sports are a key part of the student culture here at DDHS, but equally as important are the student fans who cheer on our teams.  Go Comets!
