There are multiple unspoken rules at DDHS and one of the most important is seating in the cafeteria. The Seniors have the option of sitting in the senior lounge. Students are allowed to get permission to sit in a teacher’s room (if they have prep). Many students, however, quickly try to find seats. Students who have a different 5th period may end off with a different lunch. There is an unspoken rule in the lunchroom: once you pick a table, you stick with it for the rest of the semester. For some students, their classes do not change, which nearly guarantees they will have the same spot in the lunch if they would like. An anonymous student said in an interview, “There are a lot more people in first lunch now. Second lunch last semester was very small, so switching to first lunch felt very full.”

However, this may change when the weather warms up. Students are allowed to sit outside on the patio during their lunch if they choose to, and if the weather permits. Having additional seating outside helps with the number of students in each lunch and the noise level in the cafeteria.  To conclude, when most students pick their seat, they stay in their seat which makes it easier for students to have a spot at lunch.
