Known for representing students of strong academic and moral character, the National Honor Society is a group of students selected for their contributions to the community, leadership, and academic excellence. On April 2nd, Delavan-Darien High School’s Louise Jacobson NHS chapter welcomed 32 new members, raising the total membership to 56 students.

To become an NHS member, a prospective junior or senior must have a 3.5 GPA and volunteering experience logged through the main office. After the first semester’s grades have been posted, invitations to apply are sent to the qualifying students. The application asks students to list their high school extracurriculars, answer questions about how they have displayed service, excellent character, and leadership, and list where they have volunteered. Once the applications have been processed, applicants are notified about whether they will be inducted into the National Honor Society.
The NHS inductees attend an induction ceremony hosted and prepared by the members inducted in the previous year. The inductees officially become members once they are introduced and recite the NHS pledge with the other members. At the ceremony, speeches are delivered by the elected officers of the chapter, and a brief academic and service biography is provided for each inductee. The Four Pillars of the National Honor Society are scholarship, service, leadership, and character, so all members must continue demonstrating scholastic achievement and service to retain their membership. To graduate wearing the white NHS stole, members must record an additional 10 community service hours after their induction ceremony and turn them in to Ms. Watson, our NHS advisor.
Congratulations to the following students on their achievements and induction:
