The holiday season is officially upon us, and to prepare for the upcoming season, The Cometeer sent out a Holiday Survey the week before Thanksgiving break. We had 49 responses and the results were intriguing. Questions included in this survey were what is your favorite holiday song, movie, treat, or activity? And last but certainly not least, the big question DDHS: Does DDHS think Santa is real?
To start us off, the students at DDHS were very diverse in their favorite holiday songs. The winner was the classic “All I Want for Christmas” with 16 votes, and the runner-up was “Baby It’s Cold Outside” with 11 votes. DDHS’s third favorite holiday song was “Jingle Bells” with eight votes, and the two losing songs were “Frosty the Snowman” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” both tied with seven votes.
The next question was your favorite Christmas movie, and the big winner was “The Grinch” with a grand total of 19 votes. Next was “Home Alone” with 14 votes, followed up by “ELF” which had nine votes. Surprisingly enough, “Die Hard” had a solid five votes, which wasn’t the big loser of DDHS’s favorite Christmas movie. The big loser of DDHS’s favorite Christmas movie was “The Santa Clause” which only scraped by with two votes.
Next up was what your favorite holiday treat was and instead of having five different categories, DDHS only voted for four of them. In the lead with almost half the total votes was hot chocolate with 24 votes. Second up was Christmas cookies with 18 votes. With four votes was candy canes, and finally with a grand total of three votes was fudge. However, with no votes from anyone who took the survey was the beloved fruitcake.
Almost to the end, hang in there for the big question of “Is Santa Real”! Classically enough DDHS’s favorite holiday activity is to watch movies with 20 of the total votes. Next was cookie decorating with 12 votes, followed closely by the classic holiday favorite of sledding with 10 votes. Then we had skiing/snowboarding with four votes, and then ice skating with a low total of three votes. However, if anyone is more interested in skiing or snowboarding, DDHS has a skiing/snowboarding club for anyone who wants to join! No experience is needed!
Finally, the big question arises. Does DDHS think Santa is real? Drumroll, please . . .the answer is . . .Yes! With over half the votes, 27, the students at DDHS do believe Santa is real. However, 21 people who took the survey said that they didn’t believe that Santa was real. I think we all know who’s getting coal in their stockings this year!
