The Delavan-Darien football team’s playoff run, even if it came to an end, was fueled by a season that was successful, including a 6-1 conference record and a 7-4 overall record. The Comets won an away playoff game, coming victorious after a high-paced, shootout game against the Waupun Warriors. A significant number of players, 11 of them to be exact, received All-Conference honors, including Quarterback Quintin Arizola, the RVC Offensive Player of the Year, who ranks among the top in the state in passing yards. He also threw for an astounding 419 yards and 5 touchdowns in the Comets’ high-volume win at Waupun.
I interviewed with Second Team all-conference left tackle and defensive tackle Brendan Wiese about the playoff run and the offensive line’s impact on the team. When asked about the mindset, Wiese discussed that it is different compared to the regular season because it is win or the season is over. He also provided direct insight into his position, playing left tackle, “I protect Quintin’s blindside, and I play a lot of athletic defensive ends.”
Wiese uses his goal of playing football for the Wisconsin Badgers to push himself as an individual and part of a team, using momentum to practice even harder this week and carry it over to the next game. He feels that it is rewarding to see how this season went, considering the amount of work that he and the team put in last summer in the offseason.
As a great Comets’ football season concludes, it is crucial to have something to motivate them to push themselves to the next level, whether it is a goal or an achievement. For now, the Comets will look to build off this year and come back stronger next year, with most of the team returning.
